Working Together For a Healthier Future     IHSP 2010 - 2013

Working Together For a Healthier Future is the Integrated Health Service Plan (IHSP) for 2010 - 2013.  The plan was approved by the WWLHIN Board of Directors at the November 26, 2009 board meeting held in Cambridge, Ontario.

The IHSP was developed in partnership with health service providers and local residents.  Working Together for a Healthier Future is the community’s strategic plan for Waterloo Wellington’s health system.

A copy of the IHSP and the supporting appendices can be accessed via the links below.  Please note that Appendices 1 & 2 are included in the main document, in both English and French.

Working Together for a Healthier Future Integrated Health Service Plan 2010 - 2013 - Executive Summary -CNIB Version

The development of the IHSP  2010 - 2013 reconfirmed four key focus areas, or strategic dimensions, that will help advance the vision for the WWLHIN health system. They are:

• improve access to health services

• improve the health of the population

• enhance system effectiveness

• build community capacity to achieve a sustainable health system.

In addition to the strategic dimensions that will lead to an integrated system in Waterloo Wellington, three elements have been identified as being ‘enablers’ to success – eHealth, health human resources, and strategic leadership. These enablers have been incorporated into the IHSP 2010 - 2013 strategic priorities.

The eight priorities for 2010 - 2013 are:

• improving wait times for MRI exams

• improving access to emergency department (ED) care

• improving access to primary care

• improving access to, and coordination of, addictions and mental health services

• improving chronic disease prevention and management

• improving outcomes for stroke patients through integrated programs

• decreasing alternate level of care (ALC) days

• improving patient safety and enhancing quality of care.

Taking Action on the Plan

The WWLHIN, in partnership with health service providers and community organizations, will implement system improvement initiatives to address the IHSP priorities. The system improvement initiatives will be rigorously monitored using identified indicators. As part of the overall accountability mechanism for the IHSP, specific organizations or networks will be identified to lead the implementation of each system improvement initiative. Through this approach, the WWLHIN and health service providers can focus their collective efforts on addressing organizational efficiency, long-term sustainability, outcomes and results.

IHSP Implementation Plan Dashboard

The IHSP Implementation Plan Dashboard summarizes the performance success-to-date in implementing the IHSP initiatives. This is done by listing performance indicators and targets for each of the eight IHSP priorities. This Dashboard will be updated monthly. Visit the website regularly to review how the WWLHIN and local health service providers are performing to achieve the targets.
