The Ontario Government is seeking local citizens interested in, and qualified for, service on the Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network Board of Directors for current and future positions of Director.
LHINs make Ontario’s health care system more patient-centered and responsive to local health care needs by planning, coordinating, integrating and funding the delivery of health services in each of the fourteen LHIN geographic areas.
The Waterloo Wellington LHIN plans, integrates (connects and improves), and funds health services to improve the health and well-being of approximately 775,000 residents in Waterloo Region, Wellington County, the City of Guelph, and the southern part of Grey County. This covers approximately 4,800 square kilometers where 90% of the geography is rural, and 90% of the residents live in urban areas. 11.7% of Waterloo Wellington residents are visible minorities, approximately 1.2% self-identify as Aboriginal, 2% are Francophone and 87% are under the age of 65 years.
The Waterloo Wellington LHIN works in partnership with residents, health service providers, governors and community leaders to transform the health system into one that is integrated, equitable, sustainable and meets the unique needs of our communities – all to ensure better health and a better future for the residents of Waterloo Wellington.
This is a time of great opportunity for positive change at the LHIN. Under the Patients First Act, 2016, LHINs have expanded responsibilities such as home care (Community Care Access Centre will transition to the LHIN) and primary care planning so that it will be integrated with the rest of Ontario’s health care system. The Patients First Act, 2016, will strengthen the LHINs’ accountability for local health service planning and performance as well as support the goal of providing care that is more integrated and responsive to local needs.
As a member of the Waterloo Wellington LHIN Board of Directors, you will be responsible for directing its affairs in accordance with applicable legislation, approved strategic and business plans, the accountability agreement with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and the directions and policies established by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
Serving on a LHIN board is a part-time appointment, involving a significant commitment, often involving meetings and/or teleconferences during and outside normal business hours. Candidates should consider their ability to make such a commitment as part of their decision to express their interest in serving on the LHIN Board.
Candidates should have significant experience in areas that would be relevant to the LHIN position, including one or more of the following areas:
- Community Engagement
- Finance and Accounting
- Human Resources
- Communications and Marketing
- Information Management
- Labour Relations
- Public Sector Knowledge
Members of the public who represent the linguistic, cultural and geographic diversity of the LHIN region, including representatives from the Francophone and Indigenous communities, are encouraged to apply for this vacancy.
Directors are appointed by Order-In-Council for a term of up to three years and are subject to renewal.
It is anticipated that a LHIN Board Director may be expected to commit approximately two days per month to Board matters with additional time for Committees.
A LHIN Board Director will receive a per diem rate of $200.00. To fulfill the board’s mandate, board members often travel to attend off-site meetings with residents and providers, to meet ministry officials, and to participate in working groups and educational sessions. Appointees will receive reimbursement for reasonable expenses in accordance with the Management Board of Cabinet’s Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expenses Directive and LHIN Board Per Diem and Expense Guidelines. Following direction from the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, all expenses for members of the Waterloo Wellington LHIN Board of Directors will be posted on Waterloo Wellington LHIN’s public website.
