The Public Health Agency of Canada Centre for Communicable Diseases and Infection Control will be hosting two webinars that will help you to navigate the care and support of Syrian refugees.
January 21: Caring for Syrian Refugees: Canadian Context and International Best Practices
This will feature a presentation of the general health needs of Syrian refugees and related guidelines by immigration health expert Dr. Pottie. In addition, Dr. Santino Severoni, the Coordinator of Public Health Aspects of Migration for WHO EU Region, will provide a brief overview of WHO findings on the health status of Syrian refugees moving through Europe.
January 26: Mental and Psychosocial Health Needs of Syrian Refugees
Immigrant mental health experts Dr. Kirmayer and Dr. Hassan will provide an overview of the mental and psychosocial health needs of Syrian refugees arriving in Canada. Dr. Kirmayer and Dr. Hassan have written extensively on issues related to immigrant mental health, including the recent publication Culture, Context and the Mental and Psychosocial Wellbing of Syrians: a Review for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Staff Working with Syrians Affected by Armed Conflict (2015).
