Enhancing Access to Care for North Wellington Residents

Palmerston, ON…Residents in North Wellington will benefit from increased access to physiotherapy care and a new integrated health centre, MPP for Guelph Liz Sandals announced this morning.

As part of reforms to physiotherapy services, Ontario is expanding access to clinic-based physiotherapy for seniors and eligible patients in North Wellington. The province is providing $31, 200 in annual funding to North Wellington Health Care to provide outpatient based physiotherapy services. This new funding will provide access to physiotherapy for approximately 100 residents each year.

North Wellington Health Care also received clearance from the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care to proceed with the planning of The Minto Rural Health Centre (MRHC) - an 11,000 square foot Medical Arts Building proposed for the Palmerston and District Hospital property.

The building will house a number of key community partners in the delivery of health services to area residents. This includes Minto-Mapleton Family Health Team, Canadian Mental Health Association – Waterloo Wellington District, Waterloo Wellington Community Care Access Centre, along with a number of primary care physicians. Additional community services can be added.

“As a result of these two projects, people in North Wellington will have better access to physiotherapy and other community based health care services closer to home.” - Liz Sandals, MPP for Guelph

“Our government is committed to ensuring Ontarians have access to high-quality care, where and when they need it. The new Minto Rural Health Centre and our investment in outpatient physiotherapy services at North Wellington Health Care will mean residents of North Wellington will receive the right care, at the right time and in the right place.” - Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care

“This is great news for residents in Palmerston and beyond. Not only will they have access to an innovative integrated health facility that brings rural health care providers together, but also access to outpatient physiotherapy care, close to home. Congratulations to North Wellington Health Care and thank you for your dedication to increasing access to higher quality care for local residents.” ‐ Joan Fisk, Chair, Waterloo Wellington LHIN

“I would like to thank the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network, Town of Minto and all of our Health Care Partners. Both of these initiatives enhance coordination in the delivery of an integrated care model that allows our patients to receive quality care, close to home. A special thank you goes to the Minto Rural Health Centre Committee and Palmerston Hospital Foundation for making this concept become a reality.” ‐ Tom Sullivan, Board Chair, North Wellington Health Care
