CMH Cancels Surgeries Because Of Water Main Break
Friday, April 17, 2015
Cambridge, Ontario – Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) cancelled all surgeries and surgical procedures today due to a water main break at the rear of the hospital. This main provides water to the majority of the hospital, including surgical suites. A total of 97 surgeries and procedures (e.g., endoscopies) were cancelled as a result. All are in the process of being rescheduled.
The break occurred at 6:30 a.m.., Friday, April 17, near where medical gas lines are located. This area is sensitive and crews need to dig carefully to find and repair the break.
City of Cambridge crews are on site and Bondfield, the hospital’s contractor for the new construction, has diverted all their crews to help find and repair the leak. The Emergency Department is operational; however, emergency surgeries are being diverted to other regional hospitals. Patients requiring emergency care should come to hospital. If the ailment is minor, patients should consider visiting their family doctor or seek out care at a walk-in clinic.
Patients who have appointments in outpatient programs like Medical Day Care and Outpatient Mental Health are not affected.
