Update - Wellington Hospitals Governance Integration

Response to the First Meeting of the Wellington Hospital Boards Joint Steering Committee

Date: October 2, 2015

The Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network (WWLHIN) is pleased that the Joint Steering Committee of the Wellington hospital Boards has met and agreed to moving forward on integrating the governance structures of the North Wellington Health Care and Groves Memorial Hospital Boards.

The declaration of commitment today by the hospital governors on the Steering Committee demonstrates both Boards’ dedication to improving access to health, improving health outcomes and resolving their governance dispute.  It also demonstrates their commitment to the WWLHIN’s goals of achieving a robust, integrated model of care for all residents of Wellington and ensuring all residents have the best access to care and the best outcomes possible.

We are also pleased that the governors from both Boards have indicated through the Steering Committee that their priorities are focused on achieving the best possible health outcomes for residents through all three hospital sites, and that time and resources should no longer be needed to respond to rumours of amalgamation, which has caused concern for some members of the community.  The WWLHIN reiterates that the hospitals were never directed to amalgamate, but instead were directed to integrate their governance structure by November 30, 2015.

We look forward to further updates from the Steering Committee on their progress.
