Celebrating 700 Volunteers During National Volunteer Week

From April 23 to 29, Community Support Connections – Meals on Wheels and More is delighted to be celebrating their more than 700 volunteers during National Volunteer Week (NVW), a week-long campaign set aside each year to recognize and thank volunteers who contribute so much to our local community. The charity is also using the week to promote the benefits of volunteering.

“In one year our volunteers contributed more than 83,000 hours of service which is the equivalent to 46 full time positions,” said Rosalind Horne, Director of Engagement and Responsiveness. “The difference they make is priceless, helping our most vulnerable neighbours live at home with independence and dignity.”

From the smile they bring to a client's face when they deliver Meals on Wheels, to the extra care they offer clients as they provide a reliable ride to important medical appointments, CSC volunteers are at the heart of this local charity and deserve recognition.

One Kitchener couple receives hot and nutritious Meals on Wheels Monday to Friday, delivered by a caring volunteer. Since they do not have children or family members to depend on, the value of the volunteer visit is critical to helping them stay in their own home as the volunteer offers a friendly visit and a safety check.

“It’s consistently there right when it’s supposed to be. Even when the snow is blowing they still come. The volunteers are friendly and they’re never in a rush,” the client said.

CSC staff have organized a number of activities throughout the week to thank their dedicated army of volunteers. “To show our appreciation we’ll be raffling prizes, preparing special homemade treats, and much more,” said Horne.

CSC offers a variety of volunteer opportunities working directly with clients by delivering Meals on Wheels, or helping out behind the scenes in their office or in their Tender Loving Care Kitchen.
