Waterloo Region, ON – Community Support Connections – Meals on Wheels and More (CSC) is able to offer more rides for local seniors thanks to a $50,000 grant from The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation (The KWCF
The funds allow the agency to expand their current Monday to Friday daytime ride offerings to include evenings and weekends, meeting more ride requests each month.
“We are delighted to be the recipient of such generosity which will help improve the quality of life for so many of our valued neighbours,” said Dale Howatt, Executive Director of CSC. “We are told by both clients and their caregivers that a ride can make a world of difference in keeping them and their loved ones living independently in their own homes.”
Transportation is their fastest growing program and demand continues to rise as a result of an aging population. In 2008-09, CSC provided 9,600 client rides and that number has skyrocketed to 41,372 rides in 2016-17 – a 330% increase.
The funds will be used to offset operational costs such as staffing and vehicle maintenance, as well as to promote volunteer driver recruitment through advertising.
In conjunction with around 65 dedicated volunteer drivers who provide rides to medical appointments or to the grocery store, CSC also has 9 agency vehicles which are used to take groups of clients to adult day programs or shopping trips.
The agency is actively recruiting volunteer drivers. If you or someone you know would like to join their team, please call CSC’s office at 519-772-8787 or to apply online, visit their website at www.communitysupportconnections.org/apply
