One Local Charity Investing in Another

WATERLOO REGION, ON – Tonight Community Support Connections – Meals on Wheels and More (CSC) celebrated more than 700 local volunteers and their years of service at their annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at Bingemans. Last year, volunteers contributed 83,409 hours – the equivalent of 46 full‑time staff at a value of over $1 million dollars at a living wage.

While celebrating their achievements, CSC was joined by the Kiwanis Club of Kitchener-Waterloo who announced a new funding partnership as they invest $250,000 over three years in CSC’s client services.

“This partnership will help meet increasing need and demand in our community to keep people independent in their homes,” said Dale Howatt, Executive Director of CSC. “We thank our dedicated community partners who are helping to ensure our clients have access to the supports and services they need.”

The funds are being directed to CSC’s Transportation program as well as the Community Connector role.

CSC uses a combination of dedicated volunteer drivers and agency vehicles to provide rides including more than 40,000 in 2016‑17. The local agency is already putting the funds to use with the purchase of a new vehicle to take clients to medical appointments or day programs.

Connectors are embedded in accessible locations including local housing, community centres and doctors’ offices. They match clients with services both internally and externally in our community to empower them to live at home with independence and dignity.

CSC is currently recruiting volunteer drivers to take clients to medical appointments or to visit a life‑long partner in long term care. Volunteers create their own schedule and choose daytime, evening or weekend rides. The agency is also recruiting Meals on Wheels drivers to deliver hot and nutritious meals over the lunch hour.

If you or someone you know would like to join their team, please call CSC’s office at 519 772 8787 or to apply online, visit their website at www.communitysupportconnections.org/apply.

Community Support Connections – Meals on Wheels and More works with 700 local volunteers to help more than 7,500 people live at home with independence and dignity through practical supports like Meals on Wheels, free gentle exercise classes and transportation to medical appointments and the grocery store.

CSC offers escorted and out of town transportation with caring volunteers as well as shorter, in‑town drop off and pick up services, as well as group grocery shopping with our agency vehicles.

The agency currently has 13 Connectors throughout Waterloo Region.
